My mother died of ovarian cancer January 7, 1992, at the age of 54. The scariest thing about it is that if she hadn't gone in for a routine hysterectomy it would not have been discovered and her life would have been cut short by almost five years. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her. I was 21 when she died and it doesn't quite seem fair. There are so many things I wish she were here for. I, however, know she's up there watching me and laughing at me whenever my daughter misbehaves. I wasn't exactly the easiest child to raise (is there such a thing?). I know that my daughter has the best guardian angel she could ever need in my mom. Cancer is a scary disease. Some forms are preventable by our actions, some are not. It doesn't seem to have rhyme or reason why it takes certain individuals and not others. I do know that I wouldn't wish this disease and the ordeal that goes along with it on anyone. I would not want to go through what my mom went through. It was not pleasant or fun for us to watch her suffer. There are still things I'm angry at her for. She died from an inoperable tumor on her spine. She had been suffering severe back pains for months before FINALLY saying something to her doctor. By this time it was too late. She died 2 months later.
