This page will no longer be updated. If you find a link is no longer valid let me know but this is one of several pages that while I'm going to keep it up I no longer have the time to maintain it.
I have focused on drug addiction, though you'll find some alcohol related links as well. Having been married to a drug addict for four years I can say without a doubt that there are no tried and true facts. There is no "cure" for these diseases. There are, however, many links I ran across dealing with EVERY type of addiction imaginable. If you're looking for it, it is out there. A good place to start if you're looking for help is Charter House (1-800-CHARTER). Even if there is not one near you they will talk to you. It seems that many insurance companies have discontinued covering in-patient rehab. programs and as a result many providers have discontinued offering in-patient programs. When you're looking for the help, it can be quite overwhelming when you can't find it.
My ex-husband has been clean since July 2000, which happens to be one month after our son died. While I no longer maintain contact with him I hope that he is still clean and wish him nothing but the best. I married him because I believed he was a good man, I stayed with him as long as I did because I believed he could overcome the problem. I'm just sorry it took the tragedy of losing our son and our marriage ending to get him over the hurdle.
All I can say is that if you feel that you need help, or are in a relationship with someone who needs help - please find a support group somewhere. There are groups for the people involved (AlAnon, NarAnon, etc), which are good programs for helping the other people in the relationship understand their role.
